INDIANAPOLIS–The Indianapolis Colts will not play their starters in the Saturday night preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
“They got the bulk of the work in the last two days, so the 2s and 3s will go and then I’ll make a decision about Cincinnati for the starters,” said Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen after practice Thursday night.
The Colts just finished up joint practices with the Cardinals Thursday night. Steichen also said the ended the last two days of practice in great fashion.
“Obviously, when you end with scoring touchdowns when the game’s on the line right there, like it was – to score there was awesome. So, it’s really good,” said Steichen.
The Colts and Cardinals had to practice in the rain Thursday night.
“Oh yeah, I was out there saying ‘It’s Florida weather, man.’ Florida man, you never know when it’s going to rain. We went in the elements today. You’ve got to adjust, play ball and just get used to it I guess,” said Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson. He won’t play in the game Saturday and neither will backup quarterback Joe Flacco.
Even though Richardson isn’t playing, he still says he’s focused on a lot of things while he’s on the sideline.
“Leadership and making sure I’m still tuned into the game. Although I’m not playing, there’s still things I can learn from just watching. So just being a leader, rooting for the guys, and just making sure I’m tuned in,” said Richardson.
The Colts lost the first preseason game to the Denver Broncos 34-30.
Their first regular season game is September 8 against the Houston Texans.
