SOUTHERN INDIANA — 29 people were sentenced to nearly 400 years combined for a drug trafficking ring in Southern Indiana.

Court documents say from January 2020 to November 2021, those 29 people got together to give out nearly 500 pounds of meth and over three kilograms of fentanyl to dealers.

Authorities say Jeramey Smith was the leader of this operation, and he sourced meth from many distributors and then distributed it himself to other distributors in Indianapolis and Evansville.

Smith began sourcing meth from Julian Green until 2021, when he switched to a cartel-linked supplier in Houston. After a robbery left him unable to pay his supplier, Smith returned to Green to keep his operation running.

By September 2021, Smith expanded into fentanyl-laced pills, obtaining fentanyl powder from Gregory Markey and L.C. Moore. They pressed the powder into pills using an automated pill press, allowing Smith’s dealers to push fentanyl throughout the region.

As this case was being investigated, more than 80 pounds of meth, more than 500 grams of fentanyl, and more than $200,000 in cash were all seized.
