Kendrick Lamar has gotten impressive recognition by hip hop heavyweights. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg named him the “New King of the West Coast.” And during his “BET Music Matters” show in Chicago last night, Kendrick Lamar received another co-sign from one of hip-hop’s most respected MCs. As part of the Lupe Fiasco Outstanding Fan Awards, the Chi-town rapper presented the Compton lyricist with the “Next Big Thing” award.

After thinking about it long and hard, he decided that Kendrick deserved the honor. “Out of the many, there’s only one guy that I am a fan of that I think deserves this award, so the ‘Next Big Thing’ award goes to my big homie Kendrick Lamar,” Lupe told the audience at Congress Theater.

This the future right here. Unadulterated, uncut, unfiltered…but I ain’t go nowhere either,” added Lupe beforeperforming verses from “Put Em Up” off his new album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, which drops Tuesday.
