Ice Cube’s cop character in “Ride Along” has multiple issues in dealing with Kevin Hart’s super-hyper security guard, Ben. In real life, however, Cube says the comedian is a measured professional when it comes to his craft…but he’s still hyper.
“He’s the Energizer Bunny. I don’t know if it’s coffee or cocaine,” Cube told us during interviews for the film over the weekend. “He’s always on. It’s good. It’s fun. And it’s his personality. It’s not an act.
In “Ride Along,” Ben joins his cop brother-in-law James (Ice Cube) on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta in order to prove himself worthy of marrying Angela, James’ sister.
Below, Cube says Hart is rare in that he cracks up both the crew and “the camera,” the latter referring to the audience.
