Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard addressed the media at a 3:30pm Press Conference about the Merrit Board decision clearing Officer Jerry Piland.
“I am dissappointed by the Police Merrit decision against Chief Paul Ciesielski recommendation but respects their authority.” He also stated “Public Safety is job one.”
Chief Ciesielski of IMPD also explained his dissapointment about the decision of his recommendation of firing Officer Pilard and commented “I will change this police department.”
Cielselski says he stands by his recommendation to the Merit Board to terminate Piland. Public Safety Frank Straub calls the incident one of the “worst excessive force cases he’s ever seen” in his nearly three decades in law enforcement. “This incident demostrates as do other recent incidents, our condition is in need and will be reformed”
