Ever since Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair,” there has been a lot of talk about how and where weave comes from. The over arching truth is that most weave comes from young impoverished women in India who cut off all of their hair (for no money) and give it to the temples in order to ensure a good harvest or to show that they do not care about pride and vanity. These women and children sit under a dry razor and give up their locks with no reward so women in the rest of world can sew, clip, braid, glue and extend these hairs into their own.

The temples in India make millions of dollars in the hair industry every year while the hair industry brings in billions and the women who furnish the entire operation get nothing- but of course a promise for a great harvest…. that will probably never come.

Does this seem ok? Should women around the world begin to stand up and fight for the rights of the women who are providing them with their “do”? What do you think? If you see a problem with this growing industry and it’s lack of ethics, you can do something! All it takes are the consumers to stand up and ask for a change. There are hair industries that don’t involve unethical practices. Writing on company’s facebook page, twitter, email or even calling and writing letters can make a difference.

What are you willing to do for your hair?
