Television show host and producer who is best known as the creator of the nationally syndicated dance/music franchise Soul Train, which he hosted from 1971-1993, is dead according to TMZ.
Authorities in Sherman Oaks, CA say he died from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound.
Don Cornelius was battling numerous health issues and told his divorce judge in 2009 that he wanted the divorce completed before he died. The divorce was legally finalized in 2011.
