Hip-hop fans were outraged after Kendrick Lamar lost all seven of his nominations at Sunday’s Grammy Awards. But the Compton MC is not feeling sorry for himself. Speaking out for the first time since his loss, he congratulated Macklemore on his wins.
“It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man,” Kendrick toldXXL after his performance with Dom Kennedy in New York on Tuesday. “He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis scored four Grammys including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best NewArtist, while Kendrick went home empty handed.
After the show, the “Thrift Shop” rapper sent Kendrick a text. “You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you,” he told him.
The good kid, m.A.A.d city rapper joins a list of hip-hop heavyweights who have been snubbed by the Grammys including Nas, Snoop Dogg, and even Tupac and Biggie.
