So So Def All-Star 20th Anniversary Concert

Mariah Carey thinks she and Jermaine Dupri make much better partners in the studio than in the boardroom.

There’s word that Mariah has fired JD as her manager after her latest project, “Me, I Am Mariah… (The Elusive Chanteuse),” flopped with music lovers. Nielsen Sound Scan reports that only 103,000 copies have been sold since it dropped on May 27.

Jermaine and Mariah have worked together for years producing songs like “Always Be My Baby,” “Don’t Forget About Us,””We Belong Together,” and “Sweetheart.” They have hit-making down to a science. Unfortunately, that formula for success did not carry over to the business side of their career when he became her manager last October.

The producer hinted earlier today that a big part of the problem may have been that he wasn’t able to guide her career as he saw fit. “I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to my work,” Jermaine said in a statement, adding that he and Mariah will still be working their magic in the studio. “I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do, then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.”

Jermaine’s dismissal has been confirmed, but Billboard.com reports that Mariah’s already under new management. Supposedly, she’s been working very closely with Kevin Liles.
