Eminem Grants Wish … For Terminally Ill Fan

Eminem isn’t always the angry rapper who rips people on tracks … sometimes he’s the sweetheart who visits the home of a terminally ill fan … and doesn’t tell a soul about it.

The fan in question is 17-year-old Gage Garmo … who has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, and has been told he only has one week to live. Just three days ago, Gage’s friends and family started up the hashtag #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem … in an effort to … well, it’s obvious.

And it worked. TMZ says Em arranged for a home visit at Gage’s place in Michigan … which is only about 20 minutes from where Em lives.

According to TMZ, Em was adamant he did not want the visit to become a media spectacle — and quietly arrived to Gage’s home around 5PM Sunday.

The two spent around an hour together — talking and hanging out. According to TMZ, the whole thing meant a lot to Gage, who was in good spirits during the visit and after.

Unfortunately, the Rochester High School student, has lost his battle with bone cancer. Family members posted online that Gage died Monday. Hundreds gathered Monday night at Rochester High School for a candlelight vigil in Gage’s memory.

Kwame Kilpatrick could get shot at a do-over

Kwame Kilpatrick’s trial lasted five months, with dozens of witnesses taking the stand. Now the former mayor wants a do-over. A court in Ohio is going to listen to arguments Tuesday as to why he should get a new trial.

The last time we saw Kilpatrick he was convicted by a jury of racketeering and sentenced to 28 years in prison. Among his crimes were ripping off Detroit taxpayers in a pay-for-play city contract scheme with his buddy Bobby Ferguson.

For the past year, Kilpatrick has been serving time in Oklahoma. Guards tell him when to wake, what to eat, what to wear and when to sleep, but those who know the former mayor of Detroit said Tuesday is the day he has been waiting for, to get his shot at a new trial.

The 6th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals has agreed to hear oral arguments as to why Kilpatrick should get a new trial. His best shot is the argument that his attorney, James Thomas, knew and represented some of the witnesses who testified against Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick tried to fire Thomas just days before his trial but the judge said no, instead offering Kilpatrick an additional attorney to handle the parts of the case that could be a conflict of interest.

Neil Rockind has argued before the court on other cases. He said Kilpatrick’s attorney will have only 20 minutes to convince a three-juror panel. Then co-defendant Bobby Ferguson’s attorney gets 20 minutes. The prosecutors have 40 minutes to say why Kilpatrick’s trial was fair. Rockind said these are excellent, no-nonsense justices making the decision.

Detroit man fatally shot in the head while shoveling snow

Detroit police say they are investigating a fatal shooting on Detroit’s west side.

Police say a black male wearing a brown Carhart jacket walked up to a man shoveling snow and shot him in the head.

The shooting happened in the 6900 block of Faust Avenue, which is near the intersection of Warren Avenue and the Southfield Freeway.

Chris Graham works at Star Auto Wash nearby and he says he heard the deadly shots. When he turned, he saw the 34-year-old victim, who had been shoveling his driveway, fall to the ground. Immediately, he rushed over.

He checked the victim’s pulse and rolled him onto his back. That’s when he realized the man had been shot in the face. He tried to give him CPR and then he noticed the cell phone nearby. The phone was still connected and a woman’s voice could be heard on the other end of the line.

The ambulance was on its way and Graham tried to keep the guy alive but he was starting to fade even before the emergency responders could get there. He said about 20 seconds before the ambulance arrived, he was gone.

While Detroit Police are not releasing the mans name, they say they are gathering evidence and possible surveillance video of the shooter at a nearby auto shop. Graham says he wishes he could have done more and wishes someone could have done more – to save him.

“We need more police officers and more EMS. That’s what we need. That’s all it comes down to.”

Suspicious package declared safe outside Detroit auto show

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms cleared the scene where a suspicious package had been found near Cobo Center.

The package, which was across the street from Cobo Center at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Detroit Convention Center, was X-rayed and checked by investigators who determined it was not a threat at about 8:40 p.m. Monday.

Shortly before 7 p.m. police blocked off a portion of Larned and Washington streets as a result of the package.

Investigators took the package seriously because it was addressed to someone not staying at the Crowne Plaza, Detroit police said.

Those attending the North American International Auto Show inside Cobo Center were not being allowed to leave the front entrance.

Press, auto industry members and others were being allowed to leave the building using alternate routes.
