4 in custody after woman found beaten and dumped in Dearborn Heights

Four people are in police custody the day after the badly-beaten body of a woman was discovered on the side of the road in Dearborn Heights.

Her body was found around 1 a.m. Monday on Powers Avenue, near the intersection of John Daly Road. Authorities believed her body was dumped there.

The Westland Police Department says later that day a man came to their station and confessed his involvement in dumping the body, and mentioned three other people involved. The man also told police where the incident occurred.

Authorities confirmed the female victim did, in fact, live at the address the man gave police. Officers then executed a search warrant there and found evidence of an assault.

Police tracked down the three other people suspected to be involved and brought them into custody, where they are all currently being questioned.

Police have not yet released the identity of the victim.

Elderly Rochester Hills couple found murdered, son arrested

A quiet Rochester Hills neighborhood is rocked after news of a double-homicide of senior citizens.

Police say 87-year-old William Joseph Maurer and 85-year-old Gayle Baird-Maurer were found dead Monday inside a vehicle at their house on East Maryknoll Monday. One was inside the front seat, one inside the back.

Investigators say the couples’ suspected killer is their 53-year-old son with a history of mental health issues. According to the medical examiner the couple died from blunt force trauma.

“The family is very upset over what has occurred,” said Undersheriff Michael McCabe of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.”Physical evidence was recovered at the scene. We recovered what we believe to be the weapon that was used that caused the blunt force trauma.”

As investigators try to learn what led up to brutal murder, they say the suspect is no stranger to them.

“In 2000, he was arrested for domestic violence of both mother and father at that time,” McCabe said. “He was convicted in 2000 on misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.”

Family members tell investigators the suspect is battling several different demons.

“According to the family he has mental health issues, drug and alcohol issues,” McCabe said. “He’s been residing with parents ever since.”

At this time the suspect is not talking to investigators leaving a family and a community to wonder why.

Source: DNA matches man accused in rape of Highland Park 11-year-old

A source tells FOX 2 News that DNA tests match the man who has been charged for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Highland Park.

Ramirez Dewberry, 24, was charged Jan. 8 with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, among other charges.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy alleges Ramirez Dewberry grabbed the victim by her arm as she was walking to school the morning of December 10, 2014.

Authorities say a gun was pointed at the victim’s head, and she was taken to a vacant home in the 80th block of Church Street where the alleged sexual assault took place. The victim ran home and Highland Park police were immediately contacted.

Dewberry also faces charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, felonious assault and felony firearm.

Dewberry is due in court on January 23 for his preliminary examination.
