B. Scott and BET have reached an agreement following the legal battle sparked by the network’s major snub.
The media personality was all ready to welcome stars and interview them on the red carpet at the 2013 BET Awards. The network, which had booked him for the gig, was not pleased when he showed up to work in women’s clothes. Organizers demanded that he change into more gender-appropriate attire before proceeding with his duties.
At the time, the network argued that his chosen appearance would be damaging to its reputation. This came as something of a shock because B. Scott, who identifies himself as a man, is known to prefer wearing women’s fashions and a serious face beat. Anyone booking B, should have known that he would be coming rocking the fiercest designs he could get his hands on.

Shortly after the mortifying experience, B sued BET for discrimination on the basis of gender identity and gender expression.
After the announcement, B’s attorney issued a statement, asserting, “Anti-Slapp statutes should not be used as a shield against discriminatory actions in an employment setting. Resolving litigation is good for all parties.”
Since B is perfectly capable of speaking for himself, the stylish personality wrote a message especially for his fans:
Dear love muffins,
After two years of a lengthy legal battle with BET/Viacom, I can say that a settlement has been reached and ‘the matter is resolved’.
It’s never an easy decision to stand up for yourself and fight for your right to be who you are. It’s something that I believe in and it’s something that I’ll always continue to defend.
In recent months we’ve witnessed transgender individuals, gender non-conforming performers, and other allies in the fight for equality receive opportunities that may not have been extended to them a few years ago.
I’m proud to say I’m part of the change. I truly hope that by walking in my truth it encourages others to be who they are. Thank you to my attorney Waukeen McCoy, my family and friends, and of course my love muffins for all of your continued support.
I must say, through it all God is so good.
As always, double kisses xoxo!
P.S. I can’t wait to share with you the many exciting projects I have coming up this year!
