The 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards aired last night (October 13).
The night was one to remember for Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean, with both artists taking home three awards apiece.
J. Cole took home the Album of the Year award in a competitive category featuring Drake, Nicki Minaj, Wale, Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean. J. Cole won the award for his album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive.
Scarface was awarded with the prestigious “I Am Hip Hop Award.”
“I think this is rigged,” the Houston rapper jokes at the start of his acceptance speech. “I didn’t write nothing down, so I was just gonna kind of come up here and wing it. I appreciate all the cool s-it y’all said about me, man, but I just want everybody in the building to know that none of that is true, I am not an icon [laughs]. I’m lying, I’m lying. I’ve been doing this for 27 years. 27 years ago, you couldn’t have told me that I would be standing up on stage in front of y’all tonight saying something that I’m making up off the top of my head. 27 years of this, I know too many of y’all. There’s too many of y’all to name. From start to finish, I appreciate y’all, man. Seriously. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I ain’t shit without y’all.”
DJ Mustard earned two awards for DJ of the Year and Producer of the Year. He also earned a mention for Banger of the Year, which went to Big Sean’s “IDFWU,” of which DJ Mustard lent a hand to production.
MVP of the Year went to Drake while Dr. Dre earned Hustler of the Year.
