We almost forgot Monica was the mother of three kids! The singer’s snatch back game is strong as seen on the latest cover of Uptown Magazine!

While most stars opt for photoshop to hide their imperfections, the “Boy Is Mine” singer wasn’t afraid to share her flaws. “In this picture I clearly see the scar in my lip, as a youngster I hated it.. But no longer.. It happened during a dental procedure gone wrong as a child” she shared in an Instagram caption of the cover photo.

“After injuring me she stitched me & botched the stitches (that clearly wasn’t her area of expertise and I was left scarred but the scars are a part of me… When you embrace you, you embrace it all” she added.

The singer is still promoting her eighth studio album, Code Red, which is an ode to the pioneers of R&B music including Smokey Robinson. Monica sampled his 1968 track “Much Better Off” for the album’s first single, “Just Right For Me” featuring Lil Wayne.

In the interview we learn that she’s planning to do more acting roles and she’s been able to stay away from the gossip and shady aspects of the industry by remembering advice the late Whitney Houston gave her when she was younger.

‘Don’t let them make you what they want you to be,’” Monica remembers her friend Whitney saying. “‘You know who you are.’ I did, and still do, and that’s just what it is.”

Monica, who’s never been shy about the peaks and valleys of her career and personal life says that at 35-years-old, her life is just beginning. “I’m happy and loving music again. My family is healthy and my heart is full. That’s what we ultimately live for, right?”
