According to indystar.com Indiana Black Expo executives announced plans today for the organization’s 40th anniversary year, touting $1 billion in cumulative economic impact for marquee events Summer Celebration and Circle City Classic.

New to the calendar will be a high school football game in which local powers Warren Central and Carmel will square off Oct. 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium. The traditional Circle City Classic game featuring historically black colleges — Tennessee State University and North Carolina A & T University are this year’s participants — will be presented Oct. 2 at the stadium.

A “Family Reunion” event is scheduled June 19 and 20 at Washington Park, 3130 E. 30th St. The park, site of the former Indiana Black Expo Soulfest during the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, also will host a revival of the Dust Bowl basketball tournament.

Summer Celebration, an event that annually attracts more than 300,000 attendees, is scheduled July 8-18. R&B vocalists Teena Marie and Keith Sweat will perform during a free concert July 18 at American Legion Mall.

Gov. Mitch Daniels and Mayor Greg Ballard spoke during the announcement event at NCAA Headquarters.
