San Francisco’s Commission of Animal Control and Welfare is considering an ordinance to ban the sale of all pets within city limits except fish.  Can you imagine?  “The San Francisco Chronicle” reports the proposed ban could be the first in the US and would apply to the sale of all companion animals from dogs and cats to mice and birds.  The animal commission’s chairwoman says their goal is to stop people from buying pets on an impulse that end up in a shelter and are often euthanized.  San Francisco pet store owners call the ban ridiculous and say it would put them out of business.  The idea apparently began a few years ago when the commission began looking at banning dog and cat sales as a way to discourage puppy and kitten mills.

What do you think about the ban, do you agree?
