Mary J. Blige is being taken to court over her 2005 single “Take Me As I Am.”  AllHipHop.com is reporting that songwriters Jay Ballard and Kim Jones have filed a copyright lawsuit against Blige and the production team The Clutch, which features singer Keri Hilson.  The suit — which was filed in the United States District Court in the Central District of California — alleges that Mary J. Blige and The Clutch stole Ballard and Jones’ 1995 hit “Take Me As I Am” to create Blige’s song of the same name.  The songwriting duo is seeking an accounting for all singles and albums sold in all formats, royalties, and an accounting of publishing income derived from using the song in advertisements.

Mary J. Blige’s “Take Me As I Am” was featured on her seventh album “The Breakthrough.”  The record has sold approximately seven-million copies across the globe.
