In this clip from Dee Rees’s coming of age drama Pariah, the  main character Alike (played by Adepero Oduye) is arguing with her mother Audrey (played by Kim Wayans) about the proper way to dress for church. It’s a clash of wills that is indicative of the larger issues going on between the teen exploring her sexuality and her protective mother.

PARIAH opens in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco theaters on December 28th and select cities starting January.
