Nelly‘s tour bus drug and gun bust sent shockwaves to fans when news hit yesterday (Oct. 11).
Fortunately for the St. Louis native rapper, the illegal substances and firearm didn’t belong to him. After keeping quiet about the matter for hours after he was taken into custody, he’s now speaking out.
In a statement acoording to Nelly, “It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning. Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board,” he added. “Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual.”
Nelly’s tour bus was traveling in Sierra Blanca, Texas through a border patrol checkpoint when a police canine unit detected drugs. A further search uncovered a loaded .45 caliber pistol. Brian Keith Jones, a passenger on the tour bus, was arrested after admitting the drugs and the weapon were his.
