If you are anything like most NCAA enthusiasts, you are stunned right now. Utterly and completely bewildered by what has taken place in the “upset” department as far as the NCAA Tourney this year. Some may feel disgust, others may feel despair and most have had their bracketology dreams summarily dismissed. There are questions that must be answered so that this does not happen again.
But, if we look closely, there is at least one reason that we can all call out right now. Oh yes and that reason is a chica who should have stuck with wicked step-mothers and pumpkins instead of bringing herself court-side to cheer on teams that no one in their entire lives has ever even heard of. Or for teams that we assume exist but who are never a factor. That woman’s name, is Cinderella!
Yes, it seems because of Cinderella’s presence at these games, school’s that no one even knew were schools are advancing in a big way in the 2013 NCAA tournaments! We’re talking brackets so far in error that you would think the choices were in a made up language from another planet and we were all just taking a wild guess at their outcomes!

This woman can not be allowed to continue showing up to these games and here are 5 good reasons as to why;
5. Everyone Loves An Underdog
Yes, this gives us a warm fuzzy feeling and it makes for wonderful TV and “based on a true story” type movies. However, when you pick a team, you don’t pick because you think a team will have no fans and therefore you should feel sorry for them and cho0se them! You pick the team that should win! Make no mistake, crowd participation has an effect! When the underdog wins over the crowd that can effect the other teams play. Why do you think players try to hype up the crowds? Exactly.
4. You Can’t Research A Team You’ve Never Heard Of
When filling out brackets, die hard NCAA fans pretty much have an idea of who is going to make it in to the 64 slots in the first place. Who studies teams all season if they are not aware that they exist? No one! So everyone is either forced to play catch up at the last minute or they select the team with the bigger name that they are already familiar with. Result: Broken Bracket!
3. Ivy League Schools And Basketball Don’t Even Sound Right In The Same Sentence
If you say Harvard, one thinks automatically of scholarly chaps that are nattily dressed, walking around on green courtyards. They may think of things like crew teams, or Rugby. Thoughts are conjured up in the mind of Boston and future lawyers and wall street moguls. But no one ever says, “Yeah they are ballin out of control on the Harvard basketball team!” Well except for this year! Harvard gets more money and research funds than probably all of the other 63 teams put together! Let someone else be good at something for a change geesh! [ Yes J. Lin People We Know…We Get It..name us 5 more players! ]
2. Somehow It Always Forces People To Have To Cheer For A Duke Win
If you’re a Duke fan this one doesn’t apply to you. But since most of us are not, (Yeah I Said It!) then this is not a fun scenario to be in! Every time there is a Cinderella upset or upsets then the next thing you know Duke ends up in a critical game with a team you can not afford to have win. Mark our words, it happens every single freaking time!
1. Bragging Rights
The best part of watching these very close, fast paced games is bragging about how you knew this or that would happen when a certain player or players took to the court. How in thee world can you brag about teams you’ve never even heard of? Everyone knows that you didn’t know anything prior to the tournament and you look ridiculous!
Or worse, it’s one thing for your team to lose to a top seed, but to lose to a team that no one should even knows about, is hurtful. There is no holding your head up if your team got beat in the first round by West Over There Somewhere State University! If you lose to a team that was seeded, then you can at least say, “Well yeah, but they were predicted to do xy and z anyway! So the fact that our defense/offense was able to hold them off that far is still something to be proud of!” You can’t even try to put that little bit of bragging in if you get mollywopped by a team that was never predicted to be there!
So bottom line, Cinderella should stay home. It’s just not fair when she shows up. Ask top seeds who are at home right now if they think it’s right? Better yet, ask their fans!
