For the generation that didn’t know about his past. Before Pharrell was the “Happy” guy with the hat, he was a Grammy winning producer and his performances were far from mellow when they included fellow Neptune Chad Hugo, and Shay Haley, better known as N.E.R.D.
Last night, Haley joined the “Skateboard P” at the iTunes Festival at London’s Roundhouse (September 10th), where he performed N.E.R.D tracks like “Rockstar,” “Lapdance,” and “She Wants To Move.” But that wasn’t all. Haley did more that play Pharrell’s wingman, he came bearing a message.
“It feels good to be back in London,” he said. “When we released our first album back in 2001 and first crossed the Atlantic, this was the first place to embrace us. You’re gonna like this sh*t we’re gonna release…”
Pharrell added his two cents, saying “There will always be an NERD … I’m happy to be a nerd; the bullies lost, the nerds win.” Happy, yet?
