56th GRAMMY Awards - ShowWhat does it mean to be a white rapper in Hip Hop? Rapper Macklemore thinks he knows and is tackling the touchy subject in light of the recent tiff between Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea. In an interview with New York’s Hot 97 radio, Macklemore says it’s important for him to recognize that Hip Hop is a movement that “came from pain” and oppression. Because that type of pain hasn’t been part of his background, he believes it’s important for him to stay humble and to listen to what other artists have to say. Apparently, one of those voices he’s listening to is A Tribe Called Quest rapper Q-Tip, who recently schooled Iggy on rap’s importance in the African-American community in a series of Tweets. Macklemore says Q-Tip was simply “breaking down truth” with his words to Iggy. Well there you have it. If you’re keeping score, Iggy – three (T.I., Will.i.am, and Lupe Fiasco). Banks – at least seven (Q-Tip, Tyler the Creator, Solange Knowles, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, Macklemore, and for the most part Black Twitter).
