Spike Lee accepted the President’s award at the NAACP Image Awards and gave a speech we’ll never forget. “It’s rigged,” he said referring to mainstream media’s treatment toward Blacks — particularly Ava Duvernay being snubbed at this year’s Oscars.
After accepting the noble accolade, Spike made his way back to the media room where we asked him a question we were dying to know — What’s his favorite line from a Spike Lee joint?
“I co-directed a film called ‘Bamboozled,’ he said. “There’s a scene where they’re auditioning for the “Mantan Show” and the great actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd is auditioning and Damon Wayans asks ‘Does he know any Shakespeare?’ He says ‘Yeah, I know Shakespeare.” He said, “To be or not to be that’s the motherf*cking question.”
Ha!
