Even though Eric Garner’s case brought attention to cops using banned chokeholds on individuals that they arrest, there reportedly are still police officials who are continuing to use that tactic. According to a new lawsuit, cops put a former Brooklyn marine in a chokehold after accusing him of burglarizing and trespassing his own house. 29-year-old Rodrick Small claims that last December he was outside of his house checking out the first-floor apartment to make sure that someone didn’t break in when cops tried to apprehend him. After an argument ensued, that’s when things got physical. “My father was at the stairs begging them not to choke me and my mother was screaming ‘What are you doing to my son?’” said Smalls. “They were forcing me into the unmarked car and I still didn’t know why I was arrested. I kept asking and the sergeant said I’ll know when I get the precinct.” He was charged with resisting arrest, trespassing, burglary and obstruction of government administration and was offered a plea deal but turned it down. Late Singer Selena Quintanilla to Get Her Own M.A.C Collection

It’s been twenty years since Selena Quintanilla’s tragic death, and now a major cosmetics line is doing something in her honor. Quintanilla, who was dubbed the queen of Tejano music, will get her own M.A.C make-up collection. The beauty line announced that her collection will be released next year. “Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out, have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world that has continued to grow over the last two decades,” said M.A.C Senior Vice President, James Gager. “We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies MAC’s philosophy.” According to the late singer’s family, having a cosmetics line is something that she always dreamed of. “She would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening,” said her sister Suzette. Alvin Ailey to Make Film Debut

This fall, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will go from the stage to the big screen. The dance company recently announced that they will be featured in “Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance.” The film will be shown at Lincoln Center and hundreds of other theaters throughout the country. It will reportedly feature Alvin Ailey’s classic “Revelations,” “Takademe” by Robert Battle, “Chroma” by Wayne McGregor and behind the scenes interviews. The film, which is directed by Matthew Diamond, is slated to be released on October 22nd. Read more.
