Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold are set to reprise their roles as Julius and Rochelle Rock. They’ll be joined by executive producer Chris Rock, who returns as the series’ narrator, as well as franchise newcomers Tim Johnson Jr. (Saturdays), who will inherit the role of Young Chris; Ozioma Akagha (Delilah), who will voice Chris’ sister Tonya; Terrence Little Gardenhigh (Danger Force), who will take over as Chris’ brother Drew; and Gunnar Sizemore (Kung Fu Panda), who will voice Chris’ best friend Greg.
Originally premiering on UPN before moving to The CW, “Everybody Hates Chris” portrays the teenage years of comedian Chris Rock, with Rock himself narrating the series. Tyler James Williams, known for “Abbott Elementary,” portrayed a young Chris Rock in the live-action series, alongside Imani Hakim (Mythic Quest) as Tonya, Tequan Richmond (General Hospital) as Drew, Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb) as Greg, and the aforementioned Crews and Arnold as Chris’ parents. Chris Rock will return as the narrator for the animated series and will serve as an executive producer. MTV Entertainment Studios is producing the new series as part of their expanded lineup of animated reboots, which also includes “Jodie,” a spin-off of “Daria,” and new iterations of “Beavis and Butt-Head.”

A fan tweeted on August 1, expressing their excitement by calling “Everybody Hates Chris” the last great Black sitcom of its era, particularly noting its significance during the UPN days before many Black shows were canceled. Sanjay Shah, who wrote the pilot script, will serve as the showrunner for the animated series. Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios, voiced his enthusiasm for the project, praising Chris Rock’s comedic talent and expressing excitement for its addition to their lineup of adult animation hits like “South Park” and the new “Beavis and Butt-Head.”
CBS president/CEO George Cheeks added, “A reimagining of this groundbreaking, critically acclaimed series has been a source of creative discussions at our studio for a long time. It’s exciting to join forces with 3 Arts and the comedic genius of Chris Rock as he expands on his vision of the original show in this innovative new format. This also marks another significant in-house collaboration for CBS with Chris McCarthy and our valued partners at MTV Entertainment Studios as we jointly support this marquee series for Paramount+ and Comedy Central.”
“Everybody Still Hates Chris” was first ordered to series in August 2022. It is expected to premiere on Comedy Central and stream on Paramount+ in late 2024; a trailer has not yet been released.
