Confrontation at Indianapolis Gas Station: Man Arrested After Viral Video Captures Armed Altercation

A tense and alarming scene unfolded at a gas station on Indianapolis’ northeast side earlier this week, where a man was arrested after pointing a loaded firearm at a woman during a heated altercation. The event, captured on video by a bystander, quickly went viral, drawing over a million views on Facebook.

The Incident

On Tuesday evening, around 8 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to a call reporting a “white male holding a Black female at gunpoint” at a Speedway gas station on East 56th Street.

Upon arrival, officers detained 60-year-old Mark D. White of North Carolina on charges including strangulation, intimidation, battery, and pointing a loaded firearm.

A video posted by witness Kevin Anthony captured the confrontation, showing White brandishing a large silver handgun as he cornered the woman against her car. Throughout the encounter, the woman shouted at White to stop and repeatedly asked bystanders to call the police.

Viral Video Details

The video begins with the woman sitting in her black 2017 Chevy Impala as White approaches her with a gun. As she steps out of the car, White grabs her and pushes her against the vehicle, holding the firearm inches from her face.

“Don’t put your gun in my face,” the woman yells, visibly distressed. She pleads with bystanders, who can be heard encouraging her to leave the scene while assuring her that police are on the way.

At one point, White briefly retreats toward his truck, a 2015 Dodge Ram, but quickly turns back, aiming his gun at the woman with both hands.

Police Response and Investigation

When officers reached the scene, they found both individuals near the gas pumps.

White, still holding the silver handgun, complied with commands to drop the weapon, placing it in his truck bed. The woman informed officers that she also possessed a firearm, which was secured in her car.

Both were detained and interviewed separately after being read their Miranda rights.

According to the woman’s account, the altercation began when White honked at her while she was parked at an out-of-service gas pump. She moved her car forward and stepped out, carrying her gun in her pocket, to ask White about the issue.

The verbal exchange quickly escalated. White allegedly retrieved his firearm from his truck, declaring,

“I got a way bigger firearm,”

before grabbing her by the throat, pushing her against her car, and pointing the gun at her head.

Witness Testimonies and Evidence

Multiple bystanders called 911, with one dispatch noting that the man reportedly used racial slurs during the incident.

A witness who remained on the scene provided police with videos showing White pointing the gun at the woman, grabbing her neck, and restraining her.

The woman, who sustained visible scratches on her neck and head, confirmed that she never pointed her gun at White.

White admitted during his police interview that the woman never aimed her weapon at him but claimed he acted out of fear.

“I walked her back over to the car at gunpoint and told her I will [expletive] blow her head off,” White admitted. He also stated that he “ran her up against the car” to disarm her.
