Doechii Responds to Industry Plant Criticism During Billboard Woman Of The Year Speech
Doechii took center stage at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music event, where she was honored as Woman of the Year. During her acceptance speech, the rising star appeared to address ongoing rumors about her career, particularly the criticism surrounding claims of being an “industry plant.”
The Tampa-born artist has faced criticism throughout her rise to fame, with some detractors accusing her of receiving unfair promotional boosts, including allegations of botting and being part of an orchestrated effort to push her into the limelight.
Despite there being no evidence to support these accusations, the narrative has persisted in some circles, often overshadowing her talents. However, Doechii has remained resolute, continuing to climb the ranks with hard work and resilience.
In her powerful speech, the TDE artist subtly pushed back against these claims, telling the audience,
“I want everybody to hear me clearly when I say, it is not a button, it is our brain. It is not a machine, it is our leadership. It is not a conspiracy, it is our vulnerability. It’s not an agenda, it’s God. While I may be the one front and center, I am not doing this alone. There are brilliant, savvy women on my personal and label team standing alongside me.”

Her words, full of conviction, were a clear counter to the allegations that have plagued her career, signaling that her success is built on talent, hard work, and a supportive network, not some hidden agenda.
Doechii also took a moment to acknowledge the women who’ve helped her get where she is, thanking her team members, including DJ Miss Milan and Jayda Love, for their dedication and support.
While many people have continued to speculate about the authenticity of Doechii’s rise, it’s clear that her peers in the music industry have a much different perspective.
Recently, Tyler, The Creator praised Doechii for her “alien” talent in a Nardwuar interview, showing that the accusations of being an “industry plant” are largely coming from online critics rather than her respected colleagues.
In addition to addressing these criticisms, Doechii’s speech at the Billboard event also celebrated the importance of vulnerability and leadership, underscoring the need to uplift and empower each other. Known for using her platform to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and respect, she remains unapologetically herself, speaking on issues close to her heart.
As she continues to break barriers and rise in the music industry, fans are eagerly awaiting her debut studio album.
With her unique perspective, undeniable talent, and ever-growing support from fellow artists, it’s clear that Doechii’s journey is only just beginning, and the best is yet to come.
