18-Year-Old Becomes Second Arrested in Indy Canal Triple shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — Part of downtown Indianapolis’ canal was closed June 21 as Indianapolis police investigated a large crime scene caused by a triple shooting. After an investigation, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department made a second arrest for the shooting.
The triple shooting at the canal injured one juvenile and two men early Saturday morning, June 21. IMPD says the shooting involved a disturbance at a gym on the canal, most likely between people who knew each other. Bullet casings from multiple weapons, including a rifle, and damage to multiple homes littered the canal.
IMPD detained two people at the scene, but only arrested one, Cortez Starks, for unlawfully carrying a handgun.
Tuesday, IMPD announced they arrested 18-year-old Anthony Ford for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection to the shooting. Ford is charged with five felonies.
Detectives spent hours canvassing the area for witnesses and put out the call for any surveillance footage that may have caught the shooting. That investigation led them to Ford as a suspect, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Soon, Ford was arrested on the west side of Indianapolis. Police say he had methamphetamine, ecstasy, crack cocaine and marijuana on him during the arrest.
