Monroe County Man Dies in Fireworks Accident

MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — Monroe County officers are investigating the death of a man in a fireworks incident Saturday night.

The sheriff’s department said it happened on West Tabor Hill Road, near North Mount Tabor and North Bottom Roads, around 10:30 p.m.

23-year-old Tyler Pinkley from Bloomington was attempting to light a mortar while holding it above his head. Despite others trying to stop him, Pinkley expressed confidence, saying he had done it before.

Pinkley suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Deputies say his death was accidental.
