Rising music star Doechii is no stranger to making a statement—but her latest British Vogue cover story takes things to a whole new level.

In collaboration with hairstylist Jawara Wauchope, the genre-blurring artist delivered not one, but six jaw-dropping hair looks that showcase the bold beauty and limitless potential of textured hair.

For this shoot, Wauchope didn’t pull from the usual hairstyle references. Instead, he drew inspiration from actual shapes—a unique creative choice that helped bring an Afro-futuristic vibe to life.

“If Doechii had come in with a different energy, everything would’ve shifted,” he said. “But we were aligned. And she’s fun. She’s so fun.”

That sense of fun radiates through the entire shoot, captured in stunning detail by photographer Elizaveta Porodina.

Wauchope played with form, volume, and texture, pushing the boundaries of natural hair in high fashion.

From tight coils to stretched curls, from bold cuts to sculpted silhouettes, each look was designed to stand out—not just on the page, but in the conversation around hair diversity and self-expression.

One standout style features Doechii’s hair shaped like butterfly wings, cut high and tapered toward the nape of her neck, finished with a sharp micro-fringe. Another forms a three-point star using teased, smoothed strands for a geometric finish.

Wauchope worked closely with makeup artist Jamal Scott to match the energy of each look, highlighting the “glorious possibilities” of textured hair—a beauty often overlooked in mainstream fashion. “Textured hair defies gravity and grows outwards. That’s something worth celebrating,” he said.

The result? A shoot that feels futuristic, earthy, and full of joy—much like Doechii herself. It’s a reminder that hair isn’t just style—it’s art, identity, and freedom.

As Wauchope put it best: “No matter your hair type—straight, coily, or wavy—have a little fun with it. Experimentation is the most powerful form of expression.”
