IMPD Officer Arrested, Charged with Harassment and Misconduct

INDIANAPOLIS–An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer was arrested on Friday for official misconduct and harassment.
That officer has been identified as Nicholas Cauley, a member of IMPD for nine years. On Tuesday June 24,2025, police say Cauley’s former spouse told IMPD’s North District about Cauley’s disturbing behavior. Those accusations were forwarded to IMPD’s Special Investigations Unit.
“Based on the probable cause affidavit, SIU detectives found that Cauley repeatedly contacted his former spouse despite her numerous requests for Cauley to stop. Detectives also learned that while on duty and operating a police vehicle, Cauley drove to his former spouse’s place of employment. At one point, he also used his law enforcement authority to look up her license plate information.,” said IMPD in a Friday news release.
On Friday, IMPD Violent Crimes Unit detectives arrested Cauley for 2 counts of Official Misconduct, Level Six Felony and 1 count of Harassment, a Class B Misdemeanor. He was taken to the Adult Detention Center for booking. Cauley has been placed on administrative leave. His police issued equipment has been collected and his law enforcement authority has been suspended.
“The trust our community places in us is built on accountability and integrity. When any officer violates that trust, it’s our duty to act quickly and transparently,” said Chief Chris Bailey. We are committed to working closely with the prosecutor to ensure this case is investigated appropriately.”
