MONTEREY, Calif. — Alex Palou once again swept the weekend as he took the checkered flag at the Java House Grand Prix of Monterey on Sunday at Laguna Seca.

Palou started on pole next to his rival in the championship chase in Pato O’Ward.

Despite O’Ward’s best efforts, he was unable to maintain his good starting. Executing a perfect tire and fuel strategy, Palou was able to lead the most laps, control the race, and run away from the likes of O’Ward, Christian Lundgaard, and Colton Herta.

Lundgaard had a brilliant drive coming from back in the field to a second place finish. Herta battled inside the top five all day for third to close out the podium.

The win is Palou’s eighth of the season and puts him third all-time for wins in a single season by a driver in the NTT IndyCar Series. Palou is still chasing Mario Andretti’s nine wins in a season in 1969 for second all-time, and AJ Foyt’s 10 wins in a single season in 1964, which is most all-time.

With three races left, Palou has an all but insurmountable lead in the IndyCar Series championship. He will look to further consolidate his lead when the series visits the final road course of the season at Portland in two weeks.
