Ray J Speaks Out: “I Never Did Drugs with Whitney—Stop Playing With My Name”
Ray J is finally clearing the air on one of the most painful chapters of his life—his relationship with Whitney Houston and the rumors that have haunted him ever since her passing.
Sitting down with Cam Newton on the Funky Friday podcast, Ray got real about the years of accusations: that he was Whitney’s drug runner, that they got high together, and even wild claims that he had something to do with her death.
“I loved Whitney,” Ray said with emotion. “I was with her every day. That woman meant everything to me.”
He shut down the rumor that he was in the hotel room when Whitney was found unresponsive on February 11, 2012.
“That’s the biggest cap I’ve ever heard,” Ray said. “I wasn’t even there. I was in San Diego doing a show. We were supposed to go to Clive Davis’ party together the next day. We were about to go public with our relationship.”
Whitney’s death—ruled as an accidental drowning—sent shockwaves through the world. But for Ray, the pain of losing someone so close was made worse by the constant noise online.
“People been in my comments for years saying, ‘You killed Whitney.’ It’s hurtful as hell,” he admitted.
Ray also set the record straight about who actually found Whitney. When the news broke, reports claimed it was “Ray J” who found her, but that wasn’t true—it was her bodyguard, who also happened to be named Ray. The media corrected the mistake, but the damage had already been done.
When Cam asked him directly if he ever did drugs with Whitney, Ray didn’t dodge the question.
“I’ve never done one drug with Whitney,” he said firmly. “People know her story. But I can only speak for me.” Ray admitted that after her death, grief hit him hard—and that’s when he tried hard drugs for the first time in his life.
He also shared how their bond began.
“We started vibin’ in Miami. Brandy looked up to her, so I already had love for Whitney. Then we connected, and it was real. People saw us out together. We were solid. But we never got to make it official.”
Ray said that even now, more than a decade later, people keep bringing his name up in rumors—most recently in connection to Diddy’s legal troubles, accusing him of selling drugs. “I never sold drugs to Diddy, or anyone else,” he said flat-out.
“I kept quiet for years out of respect,” Ray added. “But now? It’s gone too far.”
