Meek Mill Reacts to Shannon Sharpe’s ESPN Departure After Lawsuit Settlement

Meek Mill isn’t holding back when it comes to Shannon Sharpe’s sudden exit from ESPN. Just hours after news broke that the Hall of Fame tight end would not be returning to the network following a settlement in a $50 million civil lawsuit, Meek had something to say.

Late Wednesday night (July 30), the Philly rapper took to social media with a blunt one-liner:
“Y’all too old to be getting fired fr.”

The comment came as the sports world reacted to reports that ESPN and Sharpe had parted ways quietly. The departure came shortly after Sharpe settled a sexual assault and emotional distress lawsuit brought by a woman identified only as “Jane Doe.”

The accusations, tied to incidents from late 2024 and early 2025, never led to criminal charges, and Sharpe has consistently denied any wrongdoing, calling the case a “shakedown.”

On his Nightcap podcast, Sharpe opened up about the situation and revealed that he had asked ESPN to hold off on announcing his departure until after his brother, Sterling Sharpe, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“The only thing that I asked was, ‘Can we wait until Monday?’” Shannon shared. “This moment was about my brother and our family. I didn’t want to take anything away from what he’s worked his whole life for. But they made their decision, and I’ve made peace with that.”

The timing of the news added another layer of disappointment for Sharpe, who had originally planned to return to First Take in time for the NFL season. That return now appears off the table.

While ESPN hasn’t released an official statement, several media outlets have confirmed that the network’s decision came after the lawsuit was settled. No terms of the settlement have been made public.

Meanwhile, Meek Mill has been no stranger to controversy himself. Back in April, the rapper was criticized online for posting a photo with two white female fans shortly after Sharpe’s lawsuit hit headlines.

Some fans felt the timing was insensitive, but Meek quickly clapped back:
“It’s a regular pic with fans. Internet melting the minds of the Black community wthelly.”

Shannon Sharpe, known for his sharp takes, charisma, and unapologetic Black perspective, made a major splash in the sports media world over the last decade—first on Undisputed with Skip Bayless, then on ESPN’s First Take.

Despite this setback, Sharpe still hosts the viral Club Shay Shay podcast and Nightcap with Chad Ochocinco, giving him a strong platform outside of mainstream sports TV.

As of now, he’s keeping it moving. And so is Meek.
