Police say two teenagers took an Indianapolis couple hostage after they walked in on an apparent robbery on the Far Southside on Wednesday.

James and Angela Walsh, both 36, returned home after a workout to find two men inside their home in the 5300 block of West Southport Road about 2 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Sgt. Paul Thompson said.

One teen displayed a gun and demanded property, Thompson said. The teens tied the Walshes up, but Angela Walsh managed to redial her brother on her cell phone. He heard the commotion and placed a frantic call to police at 2:24 p.m., Thompson said.

As SWAT officers moved in, the teens grabbed the couple and fled in the couple’s GMC pickup.

The truck crossed a field and emerged onto Mann Road, where Thompson said it collided with another vehicle and crashed into a tree in the 8200 block of Mann.

The teens jumped out and ran. An officer ordered them to stop and fired two shots that missed, Thompson said. A police dog captured one teen, while an officer grabbed the other.

Police arrested Dionte Ramsey, 19, and a 16-year-old boy on preliminary charges of armed robbery, criminal confinement with a deadly weapon, battery and kidnapping.
