Police Called To Malls As Crowds Try To Cop New Jordans
Police were called this morning to two Indianapolis malls to control crowds of shoppers flocking to purchase the newest-generation Air Jordan basketball shoe.
Certain stores at Lafayette Square Mall were forced to close their doors shortly after opening at 7 a.m. because of mayhem created by hundreds of shoppers trying to get the Jordans, according to communication on police radio this morning.
Impatient shoppers tore a door off its hinges at Lafayette Square,
confirmed Kendale Adams, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Washington Square Mall on the Far Eastside also was dealing with crowds, he said.
Each store has approximately 100 pairs of the $180 Air Jordan 11 Retro available, officials said — a supply dwarfed by the numbers of shoppers trying to buy them today.
