Prince Announces Tour & Double #1 Albums In Less Than 140 Characters

Prince is a man who does not waste his words…and really he doesn’t have to say anything for the world to know how magnificent he is. But in a brief press release, The Purple One proclaimed that he’s perched atop two charts at this very moment! Who’s surprised?

The music legend has enjoyed several perches at the top of music charts — including five number one hits (count ‘em: “When Doves Cry,” “Kiss,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Cream” and “Batdance”) — but he’s just snagged his first #1 Rock album thanks to his collaborative album with his all-woman band, 3rdEyeGirl, titled “Plectrumelectrum.” His latest solo release, “Art Official Age” has also become the #1 R&B Album!

Prince casually came for everyone’s edges when he signed off the announcement with, “Tour Info Forthcoming.” After #TeamBeautiful got a chance to see his magic in person at this year’s Essence Music Fest, which marked the 30th Anniversary of his smash album “Purple Rain,” we’re waiting by the computer with bated breath to snag tickets once the dates are released! It’s official: Beyoncé has reached a whole new level of icon! News92 listeners in Houston may notice a slight change in the format during the coming days. Instead of keeping up-to-date on current events with the FM news station, listeners will be hearing nothing but Bey!

According to Billboard.com, News92 has decided to switch things up by centering its content around the Queen B’s body of work. It’s going to be all Beyoncé, all the time! “This difficult decision is a result of sustained poor ratings performance and significant financial losses over the past three years despite the substantial financial and human resources we invested,” News92 explained in a statement.

Beyoncé Radio (not the new station’s official title), is owned by RadioOne (our parent company), and a radio employee told ABC 13 in Houston that the idea this new direction was a no-brainer. “In looking to make a transition, we go back to what we know,” Yashima Azilove explained. “We know urban radio. We’re in Houston, the combination seemed like a winning one.”

Producers are going to have to get very creative with their rundown. Even with all of Bey’s work (solo and with Destiny’s Child), she only has about nine hours of material in total if the station is pulling from her standard albums. Of course they can always play the live versions of her songs and special features that she’s done with other artists, so you should expect to hear at least a little Jay Z on the radio station.
