TikTok faces fresh European privacy investigation over China data
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) has launched a new investigation into TikTok after the platform admitted that “limited EEA user data” was stored on servers in China, contrary to its previous claims. This revelation, which prompted the latest probe, raises concerns about potential breaches of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation. The DPC had previously fined TikTok 530 million euros for data transfers to China, but this latest development has sparked further regulatory scrutiny. TikTok’s European headquarters in Ireland makes the DPC the primary regulator for the platform.
