While smoking bans in public places are more common, the majority of people don’t think cigarettes should actually be made illegal.  According to a Rasmussen Reports polls, just a 26% of Americans would support outlawing tobacco including 18% of those who currently smoke. 

3 out of 10 who’ve never lit up also think cigarette smoking shold be against the law.  But the majority is against outlawing tobacco, with 63% opposing the illigalization of cigarettes.  The public is split on what effect the additonal government regulation would make on the matter.
