Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave was released from the hospital yesterday (May 30) after receiving a gunshot wound to the leg during New York City’s Irving Plaza shooting last Wednesday. Troy Ave is one of four people who were shot during the concert melee, which left one dead and three others injured.

After being released from the hospital, Troy Ave (real name Roland Collins) was seen handcuffed to a wheelchair as NYPD officers escorted him inside a Manhattan criminal court.

The 33-year-old rapper pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges and maintains that he was a victim–despite the 10-second video clip of him shooting into a crowd at the New York concert venue. His bodyguard B$B Banga (real name Ronald McPhatter), passed away from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

While Troy Ave maintains his innocence, Manhattan criminal court has denied him bail until his next hearing on June 9. Troy Ave’s lawyer, Scott Lemon, tells the New York Daily News that his client is the “real victim.”

“What really happened here is Mr. Collins here is the real victim. The person who was killed at this event, he died a hero. He (McPhatter) was his bodyguard. He wasn’t shot by Mr. Collins. He was a lifelong friend. This 11 seconds of video that the NYPD released, it doesn’t say what happened before, it doesn’t say what happened after. The scientific evidence will show he didn’t shoot himself. This was another rush to judgement. In this case he’s the victim and should be treated like the victim,” said Lemon.

Stay tuned for more developments.
