Ever since comedian Bill Cosby’s sex scandal went public, his downfall has remained in the headlines. The latest cover of EBONY magazine, which bears an image of “The Cosby Show” cast with a shattered glass overlay, has sparked controversy amongst its readers. The imagery was designed to capture the concept of broken families in the African-American community. Many people were displeased that the publication compared the classic show to Cosby’s real-life issues. Some readers took to Twitter to show support for the magazine. “Between #BlackFamilyIssues and #BlackLivesMatter issue – @EBONYMag has been on POINT recently,” read one tweet. “Thank you, @EBONYMag, for never sugarcoating,” read another. Whoopi Goldberg Wasn’t Here for Viola Davis’ Take on Diversity

Last month, actress Viola Davis delivered a powerful speech at the Emmy Awards while receiving the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She used her platform as an avenue to address the lack of diversity in the television industry. One of the lines from her speech that resonated with many  viewers was “The only thing that separates women of color from anybody else is opportunity.” While people praised Davis, Whoopi Goldberg disagreed with her views. “I’m not sure what it means. Opportunity to do what?,” said Goldberg. “The truth of the matter is there’s been plenty of opportunity. I mean, ‘Scandal.’ Let’s just start with that. Kerry Washington is there and she’s working her booty off, okay? But they didn’t vote for her.” Read more.


Sean Combs to Produce ABC Comedy Series

Mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has a comedy series in the works. The show, which will be titled “The Hustle,” is inspired by the life of his assistant Sarah Snedeker. The series, which will be featured on ABC, will delve into the day-to-day life of an assistant who works with a business mogul. It will capture how she adjusts to the mogul’s extravagant lifestyle. Combs will executive produce the project with Snedeker. The show will be written by Stacey Harman and directed by Jeremy Garelick. Read more.
